Master Storyteller Richard McCullough is performing his celebrated "Playing With Fire" presentation at RENAISSANCE SPEAKERS this Sunday, December 8th.

The performance of Richard's story will be immediately followed with a detailed breakdown of the structure of that story. In this groundbreaking presentation Richard will reveal the exact structure and flow of short stories and why they work the way they do.

Richard says, "Storytelling always has and always will be a 'Performance Art'. This is as true for the novelist as it is for the actor. The audience only sees and feels what the storyteller sees and feels."

And this presentation will reveal the structure of storytelling in a whole new way as he breaks down and charts the structure of this story for you. You will not only see, but experience, what the story is doing with the audience at each step, and understand why it works the way it does.

He'll reveal the Introduction, the Faux Problem leading to the Incident, the transition to the Real Problem and how that leads to the Climax of the Event and then the Conclusion.

Richard will also discuss the primary storytelling devices used, such as:

• Raising tension through foreshadowing

• Lowering tension through humor

• Wining the empathy of the audience

• Disarming the audience

• The roll of the Premise in storytelling

• How the audience is made to see and experience the details of the scene

• The specific selection of details to included and leave out of the mock-ups

• And much, much more... As time allows Richard will present a detailed diagram of each point of the story and why it's worded the way it is.

And you will see how and why a little recognized tool of storytelling called "Mock-ups" plays such a vital role in the storytellers art.
